May 2007. Pharmaxis Signs Software Agreement with Desert Scientific Software

The Australian pharmaceutical company, Pharmaxis Ltd., has signed an Agreement with Desert Scientific Software for the development and implementation of chemical informatics systems to support Pharmaxis drug discovery.

Desert Scientific Software has licensed to Pharmaxis a range of software tools for small molecule informatics and will create a robust and user-friendly compound inventory system and compound registration system based on these tools. In addition, the parties have entered into an ongoing customisation/consultancy agreement which will provide continuing support and maintenance of the chemical informatics needs of Pharmaxis drug discovery programmes. This is an exciting new development and DesertSci is proud to support Australian pharmaceutical research.

November 2006. Roche signs a Joint Venture Agreement with Desert Scientific Software for Proprietary Technology

F. Hoffmann La-Roche, one of the world's leading pharmaceutical research companies, has signed a Joint Venture Agreement with Desert Scientific Software to collaborate on the development of a new generation scoring function based on DesertSci's proprietary software, 'Scorpion'. Staff from both companies will work together developing new methods and know-how in order to bring forward this exciting new technology to a prototype stage. The Agreement is initially for a period of 12 months with the option of 12 monthly extensions dependent on the success of the ongoing collaboration.

This new collaborative agreement extends the present working relationship between DesertSci and F. Hoffmann La- Roche. F. Hoffmann La-Roche currently licenses various software and maintenance/support services from Desert Scientific Software. Both parties are looking forward to this new venture and the myriad possibilities that may develop from the collaboration.

June 2005. Spinifex Publication in Journal of Medicinal Chemistry

Desert Scientific Software, Sydney, Australia, in collaboration with F. Hoffmann La-Roche have a new paper published in the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, describing the application of Spinifex. The paper is: 'A Robust Clustering Method for Chemical Structures', M. Stahl, H. Mauser, M. Tsui, N.R. Taylor, J. Med. Chem, 2005, 48 (13), 4358-4366.

The JMedChem paper describes clustering based on finding the largest set of disconnected fragments that two chemical compounds have in common. Spinifex is shown to be the best clustering method compared with other approaches currently in use throughout the pharmaceutical industry. The data sets used in the analysis are available for download allowing other workers to carry out comparisons themselves.

December 2004. GlaxoSmithKline Signs New Agreement with Desert Scientific Software

GlaxoSmithKline has signed a new agreement with Desert Scientific Software, Sydney, Australia, in the area of protein structure database technology.

Desert Scientific Software (DesertSci) will be providing GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) with the Advanced Protein Structure Overlay module for Proasis2®, functionality which was created to suit the needs of experienced molecular modelling users. In addition, the collaboration includes the further development and implementation of customised new features for Proasis2®.

DesertSci announces the release of Spinifex version 2.2 - advanced chemical similarity software.

October 2004. Infocom Corporation, based in Tokyo, Japan, Signs Marketing Agreement with Desert Scientific Software

Desert Scientific Software Pty Ltd (Sydney, Australia) has entered into an agreement with Infocom Corporation (Tokyo, Japan) to market their drug discovery software in the Japanese market.

The agreement, initially for a period of 12 months, will sound out the Japanese market for Desert Scientific Software proprietary chemoinformatics software. DesertSci's products are well established among the top tier pharmaceutical companies in Europe and the US, with 4 of the top 10 companies now using their toolkit software. This agreement provides an exciting opportunity for Desert Scientific Software to expand into a very important market and will help to build long term relationships within the growing Japanese pharmaceutical industry.

November 2003. Hoffmann La-Roche signs new agreement with Desert Scientific Software for HTS Data Analysis Tool

Roche, Basel, Switzerland, have agreed on a new collaboration with Desert Scientific Software, Sydney, Australia, in the area of HTS Data Analysis. DesertSci will be providing Roche with a customised HTS Data Analysis Tool that will combine DesertSci's chemical similarity package, Spinifex, with new clustering software and an easy-to-use interface.

Roche also agreed to continue to collaborate with DesertSci on WebStar, an advanced software tool for molecular property and descriptor calculations.

March 2002. Proasis2® released

Proasis2®, Desert Scientific Software's Protein Structure Database and Visualisation System, is released.

Proasis2® is a protein structure database system for drug discovery developed in collaboration with several major pharmaceutical companies. It facilitates the interpretation of protein-ligand binding affinity through visual representations. The system is able to manage in-house and public domain protein structure data resources. Proasis2® enables researches to: closely examine the key structural features of binding sites; easily overlay multiple complexes for comparing and contrasting ligand binding modes; explore a wide range of non-bonded interactions in binding sites using new methods. Proasis2® makes the most valuable and frequently used molecular modelling tasks as routine as searching the internet. The software runs on various platforms including Silicon Graphics, Linux, and Windows.

December 2001. Hoffmann La-Roche to extend Desert Scientific Software collaboration

The collaboration between Roche, Basel, Switzerland, and Desert Scientific Software, Sydney, Australia, has been arranged to continue for 2002. DesertSci will continue to provide support for Hoffmann La-Roche's WebStar, the global web based chemoinformatics system for the prediction and retrieval of ADME properties for compounds in medicines research, originally developed with DesertSci staff. Futhermore, the agreement will provide Roche scientists with new software for chemical similarity searching based on the detection of maximum common substructures.




May 2001. AstraZeneca signs global software agreement with Desert Scientific Software for Protein Structure Visualisation Platform

AstraZeneca of Mölndal, Sweden, and Desert Scientific Software, Sydney, Australia, have signed a collaboration agreement on the further development of protein structure database technology. Under the agreement, DesertSci will establish a web-based protein structure database and visualisation environment which is closely integrated with AstraZeneca's global Structure-Based Design Platform. The collaboration is to include the licensing of DesertSci's existing software for protein structure database handling and visualistion, Proasis; customisation of those components; the design of a new graphical user interface; and the implementation of new functionality.
